CHILHOWEE ROD & GUN CLUB

General Range Rules 4-17-2021

 

  1. Shooting hours are 8am to 8pm except Sunday 1pm to 5pm and Wednesday 8am to 5pm. Think about our neighbors when shooting early or late.
  2. The use or being under the influence of drugs or alcohol is strictly forbidden on club property and its use will result in loss of membership.
  3. The use of ATV’s is forbidden on club property except four wheelers for maintenance or club approved event set-ups.
  4. Special events restricting the use of our ranges must be approved by the club and posted in the newsletter. (Archery Shoots, Skeet Shoots, Rifle or Pistol Competitions, Police Qualifications, B.S.A. Venturing Crew, etc.)
  5. Approved Eye and Ear Protection is required by everyone on the range.
  6. N. R. A. safe gun handling will be observed at all times. When the range is declared “CLEAR” all firearms are unloaded, grounded and all persons must step away from the firing line.   Absolutely no gun handling while the line is “CLEAR”.
  7. Fully automatic weapons are not allowed. This includes the use of trigger attachments, trigger modifications, firing techniques or any modification allowing the weapon to fire multiple round burst.
  8. All targets will be placed on the target boards provided. (Except skeet and trap.)
  9. No glass allowed on the ranges.
  10. Do not use cans, bottles or other such items for targets.
  11. No target items will be placed on the ground or on top of the target boards.
  12. Think about where your bullets will go if they ricochet off the ground or other objects down range. Remember our neighbors who live around our club.
  13. Tracer and incendiary ammunition is strictly prohibited. Armor piercing and steel core ammunition shall not be used on the metal targets.   50 caliber B.M.G Guns shall not be fired at the club.
  14. Firing a shot on the range that results in the bullet striking anything other than the target and or the backstop may result in the loss of membership.
  15. Remove all targets and pick up your shells and dispose of them before leaving.
  16. All ranges are set up for one firing line. THINK SAFETY Make sure everyone agrees to what you are doing! Communicate all intentions such as checking targets (range clear), range hot, loading guns and firing! SHARE THE RANGE
  17. All persons using these ranges are required to review the club’s General Range Rules and have signed an acknowledgement to that fact.
  18. A responsible adult member or range instructor must accompany anyone, under the age of 18 and must have a parent or a notarized permission slip from their parent to be on the club property. A copy of the permission slip must be attached to the club visitor waiver.
  19. Guests are to be accompanied by the member and are limited to one station on a range during busy times. Members have priority. PLEASE SHARE!!
  20. Club approved groups must also agree to our range rules and sign waivers with the certified range officer of the group being the cosigner.
  21. Law Enforcement Agencies have priorities to some ranges on Scheduled Days. Check your club calendar and the Range Officer with the police.   Remember, be courteous and SHARE THE RANGE.
  22. Identification is required on all ranges.
  • The member I. D. will cover the member and his/her family when together.
  • The spouse must use the member I. D. card when not with the member. Writing a letter to the board of directors with reasons requiring a second membership card is required for cases when both spouses frequent the club.
  • Members under the age of 18 can use a visitor badge when accompanied by a range officer or responsible adult member other than their member parent.
  • All visitors using our facilities must wear a visitor’s badge received after the guest and sponsor member review the range rules and agree and sign the club waiver form. The waiver form will then be deposited into the wavier box and then a visitor badge can be given. (Badges must be returned for next use)
  1. No member shall attempt to remove lead or bullets from the backstops without written and signed permission from the board of directors. Digging in the backstops results in damage to the backstop that requires the club to spend additional money to keep them in the condition needed to prevent an escape.

   Skeet and Trap Shooting

 

There are two skeet fields and one trap field to be used by club members and their guests on first come first served basis.

  • A key for the skeet/trap house is available for a fee only after board approval and a full orientation.
  1. Skeet and Trap fields may not be used when members are using the adjacent pistol range. THINK SAFETY AND SHARE THE RANGES!!!!
  2. On Thursdays, (scheduled skeet shooting day) and other skeet and trap events, members will not use the adjacent pistol range, and will relocate to the back pistol range when asked to do so by members wanting to shoot skeet or trap. All members and their guests will remain courteous to one another.   SHARE THE RANGES!!!
  3. The following checklist will be located inside each skeet and trap house to remind all users of proper use of skeet machines. All users shall be aware of these rules and ensure that they are followed to protect themselves and the expensive equipment and ensure the availability of the facilities for the next user:
  • Cord rolled up and hung back inside the center house.
  • Skeet machines turned off, both at the machines and the main power switch.
  • Tension released on both skeet machines. (Pull up on the metal lever after machine has been turned off on old machines, or pull out button on newer machines after power is turned off.)
  • Both machines re-filled with targets so they will be ready for the next shooter.
  • Both trap doors (windows) closed high and low houses. (Latch the low house door from inside)
  • Turn off lights, both in the house lights and the outside area lights.
  • Return the trap house key to the center skeet house.
  • Lock the main doors on all the houses.

Shotgun Patterning Range

 

There is one iron frame to the left of the trap house for shotgun patterning. Use newspaper or packing paper taped to the frame. Clean up your targets when finished and dispose of them. Make sure you are shooting towards the brush behind the trap field. Think safety.

 

Front Pistol Range

 

  1. This range is closed on Thursday during skeet shoots.
  2. Lanes 1 through 7 are for pistol. Lane 8 is for buckshot.
  3. Establish only one firing line across all 8 lanes. Share the range!!
  4. Do not approach targets until all guns are secure and all agree the range is clear.
  5. Do not resume shooting when other people are closer to the targets even though the range is called hot.
  6. When asked to clear the range so others can shoot skeet or trap, share the range and use the back pistol range.
  7. Rifles may be used for initial sighting at 50-yards or less.
  8. Shotguns with buckshot can be used on lane 8 only.
  9. 45 cal/410 shotshell pistols can be used on all lanes.
  10. This range has metal target holders. Be extra careful of the possibility of bullet ricochets off the frames. Keep targets towards the center of the boards.
  11. Club acquired metal targets can be fired on at greater than 10 yards, with standard pistol rounds 45 caliber or less. No rifle, tracer, incendiary, armor piercing or steel core ammunition may be used.

 

Back Pistol Range

 

  1. No shotguns on the range other than 410/45 cal. pistols.
  2. Establish only one firing line across all lanes. SHARE THE RANGE
  3. Do not approach targets until all guns are secure and all agree the range is clear.
  4. Do not resume shooting when other people are closer to the targets even though the range is called hot.
  5. If people want to shoot from the shed and closer, take turns and agree to one firing line at a time. THINK SAFETY
  6. Rifles may be used for initial sighting in only but not on the metal targets. Take turns and be courteous.
  7. Club acquired metal targets can be fired on at greater than 10 yards, with standard pistol rounds 45 caliber or less. No rifle, tracer, incendiary, armor piercing or steel core ammunition may be used. 

 

Rifle Range

 

  1. No shotguns with buckshot or birdshot on the range, only shotguns with slugs are acceptable.
  2. Shooting allowed from the sheds only. (Prone position shooting from between the sheds or directly in front of a shed, when the shed is not used, is allowed.) Special groups with the Board Approval can shoot between the sheds and the targets as long as a Certified RSO is conducting the shoot and the other half of the rifle range is closed to shooting. THINK SAFETY and SHARE THE RANGE
  3. The rifle range is one range. Make sure all people from both sheds are aware of what you are doing. Do not approach targets until all guns are unloaded and grounded and all agree to “RANGE CLEAR”, then check targets. Do not resume loading your guns until the range is again called clear and then called “RANGE HOT”. Be courteous! Let everyone know before you start shooting.
  4. Make sure of your rifle’s accuracy before shooting longer ranges. THINK SAFETY don’t allow a bullet to escape. Remember our neighbors.
  5. IMPORTANT!!! Follow the rifle range safety light instructions, posted in the shooting sheds, before going onto the range!

Archery

 

  1. Shoot at established practice bales either under the archery target shed or the ones placed along the trails in the woods.
  2. No stump shooting.
  3. No broadheads will be shot into 3D targets. Two bales under the archery target shed will be designated for broadheads.
  4. Lake Activities and/or firearm shooting may be affected during scheduled archery tournaments. Plan ahead and make sure of proper schedule and posting. THINK SAFETY.
  5. ALWAYS BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHERE YOU ARE IN THE WOODS.

Lake

 

  1. No swimming.
  2. No gasoline motors, electric trolling motors are O. K.
  3. No bowfishing.
  4. Life jackets must be used at all times on the water.

 

Clubhouse

 

  1. Keep your clubhouse clean and neat for your enjoyment, and the use of the next members.
  2. The primary reason for the phone is emergencies. Limit your personal calls to no more than 5 minutes.   No long distance calls.
